The following is a statement from Bishop James S. Wall of the Diocese of Gallup regarding the mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada:
“It is with a heavy heart that I offer my prayers for the victims and families affected by the tragic shooting in Las Vegas. In particular, I offer my condolences and prayers for the family of Lisa Romero, a Gallup woman who is among those who died.
In times of tragedy, when an evil act can so senselessly claim the lives of innocent people, I would ask that you please join me in following the example of Our Lord and the Gospel message. Please pray for one another, offer comfort to the afflicted and act with compassionate love toward our neighbors.
Finally, let us also praise the courageous efforts of first responders and their bravery in service to others.
May our guardian angels safeguard our souls, and may the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.”
