Each year the Diocese of Gallup holds a special Religious Jubilee Mass celebrating the life and services of consecrated religious. The honorees are chosen each year when they mark a significant anniversary, such as 25 or 50 years of service.

Sister Maureen Farrar, ASC of the community of the Adorers of the Blood of Christ, in this year of 2015, celebrates 60 years of Religious life. She was born in Roosevelt, Oklahoma.

Of these 60 years of service, she has given 32 years right here in the diocese of Gallup. She first served in pastoral ministry at St. Paul Catholic Church in Crownpoint NM, and then as administrator there and at Risen Savior Catholic Church in Bluewater NM. Currently she is in pastoral ministry in both parishes.

Before coming to the diocese, she taught in elementary and secondary schools and did public relations work at Newman University, Wichita, Kansas. Sister also served on her provincial leadership team.

It was 32 years ago that Sister Maureen and Sister Barb Smith came to Crownpoint. Their intention was simply to do whatever needed to be done and that has continued. It was to be the measuring stick for her involvement. For example, Sister Maureen says in her own words, ”In a weaker moment, I agreed to be a volunteer fire fighter in Crownpoint when the station was being established. That commitment lasted for about ten years.”

She also served on diocesan committees. “That gave me an understanding of the Church here that I would not have otherwise had.” She adds ”It’s been a privilege to serve among the people of the Diocese during these years.  Sometimes it seems as if I’ve done very little because the time has gone by so quickly and there’s so much more that needs to be done.  But we have many capable people who continue to step forward to assume responsibilities in the Church, and that gives me much joy and much hope.”

After the Mass, the Jubilarian, all religious, priests and especially parishioners from all the parishes in the diocese are invited to attend the noon time Jubilee Mass in the Sacred Heart Cathedral, followed by a Reception in the Family Center for all attendees at the mass.

The Mass will also be livestreamed and can be viewed live or archived at
