Bishop Michael Hoeppner is the first sitting U.S. bishop to be investigated under new misconduct protocols introduced by Pope Francis earlier this year.
Hoeppner, Bishop of Crookston, Minnesota, will be investigated by Minneapolis’ Archbishop Bernard Hebda, on charges that Hoeppner thwarted a police or canonical investigation of clerical sexual misconduct in his diocese.
Aztec Parish Fiesta Set for September 22
St. Joseph Church at 500 N. Mesa Verde, Aztec, NM will celebrate its parish fiesta on Sunday, September 22, 2019.
Pre-fiesta events are the Cash Bingo on Friday, September 13, 7 p.m. and the Family Prize Bingo on Saturday, September 21, 7 p.m., both at St. Joseph Parish Hall.

Obituary for Sr. Charlene Cote, OP
ADRIAN, MICHIGAN – September 12, 2019 – Sister Charlene Cote, formerly known as Sister Mary Leonette Cote, died at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Michigan. She was 83 years of age and in the 61st year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
Sister Charlene was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Napoleon J. and Harriet (Martineau) Cote. She graduated from Aquinas High School in Chicago, and received a Bachelor of Philosophy degree in Fine Arts from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian and a Master of Science degree in Art Education and Administration from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida.
Sister spent 49 years ministering in elementary and secondary education in Roy, New Mexico; Winslow, Arizona; Oakland, California; and Pompano Beach, St. Petersburg and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Thirty one of those years were spent teaching at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, where she continued for another five years as the assistant director of transportation. Sister spent three years serving in ministry to the homebound at Cirrito Home in Plantation, Florida. Sister Charlene moved to the Dominican Life Center, Adrian, Michigan, in 2011.
Sister Charlene is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Harriet Cote. Sister is survived by her Adrian Dominican Sisters.
Rite of Committal (burial) for Sister Charlene will be held on Friday, September 13, 2019, at 1:30 p.m. in the Congregation Cemetery. A Memorial Mass will be on Tuesday, September 17, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Catherine’s Chapel. The Ritual of Remembering will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2019, at 1:30 p.m. in St. Catherine Chapel at the Dominican Life Center. Memorial gifts may be made to Adrian Dominican Sisters, 1257 East Siena Heights Drive, Adrian, Michigan, 49221.
